New Morgan Athletic Grounds
The Armagh GAA County Board and The Morgan Group have announced that the county's Athletic Grounds, will, from commencement of the 2011 Ulster Championship, be known as ‘Morgan Athletic Grounds'. This follows a decision by The Morgan Group to extend their well-established relationship as team sponsor with the county. By becoming the stadium name sponsor, The Morgan Group joins an elite number of companies and brands that have invested in stadium sponsorship.
The decision to seek a stadium sponsor for the Athletic Grounds followed a sustained period of investment by the Armagh County Board, which has resulted in the new 5,600 all-seater stand and a ground with a 19,500 capacity, making it potentially the leading GAA stadium in Ulster .
The naming rights have been granted on a five year term. Hugh Morgan Managing Director of The Morgan Group of companies commented: “I sought to underwrite my commitment to Armagh and to the local community through this sponsorship package. In 2011, The Morgan Group will have been in business 30 years and as well as celebrating our continuing growth and expansion across Europe we wanted to consolidate our roots in our home county and in Ireland through this investment”.
On behalf of the Armagh County Board, Chairman Paul Duggan welcomed the naming rights investment commenting:
‘We welcome The Morgan group as the naming rights sponsor. It is fitting that following our long association with them as county sponsor, that Morgan should be the name that adorns the stadium. I believe supporters of Armagh GAA and further afield will agree that Morgan Athletic Grounds represents an excellent partnership, reflecting a long time relationship, and one that looks forward to a future of mutual benefit.'
The first game in the newly named Morgan Athletic Grounds was on Saturday 28th May when both the minor & senior teams played local rivals Down in the Ulster GAA Championship, with victory for both home teams.
